In 1998 Ruud Stuurman (Rudy Antonio) founded The Antonio Brass, a group that more and more people got to know as a result of many concerts at different places, like the Jaarbeurs, in Utrecht, Antonius Zalencentrum in Leiden, theatre De Naald at Naaldwijk, at the Beurs van Berlage, in Amsterdam, for an international audience with people from all over Europe, but also from Japan, Canada and the USA, in the Tropical Garden in Burgerveen etc.<\/p>\n<\/h1>\n

The Antonio Brass is a group with changing formations through the years. Most important to Ruud Stuurman in his musical life were Kees Buurman, a piano and keyboard player, Ruud Ebbens, a guitar player, and his son Paul Stuurman, a trumpet player like himself.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The music played by The Antonio Brass, both existing and self-composed items, is best described as a mixture of jazz, blues and Tijuana music. The music creates a joyful atmosphere and is by no means elitist, but rather appreciated by many people of different backgrounds.<\/strong><\/p>\n

At the end of 2002 Ruud Stuurman disbanded the Brass after many performances and releasing five albums during five years.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On November 9th 2006 the Brass came together again with a new line-up for a one-off concert. The album \u201cQue pasa Antonio?\u201d is a registration of that particular concert. More concerts followed and new albums were released.<\/strong>
Unfortunately permanent member and wonderful rhythm guitar player Ruud Ebbens passed away in December 2011.\u00a0 Since 2012 the Brass returned to concert stage with a new permanent line-up and the Move Back concert was released on DVD and Blu-ray.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    Never Without You (Ruud Stuurman)<\/p>\n

    This is the first album released by A&B Sounds. Trumpet player Ruud Stuurman (Rudy Antonio) played together with his friend Ruud Ebbens, a guitar player, and two other guys, in 1991 and 1992, until the moment that Ruud Ebbens left for England. Ruud Stuurman met Ruud Ebbens again after his return to the Netherlands and they decided to start the band again. In April 1998 they found four other guys, among them Ruud\u2019s son, Paul Stuurman, also a trumpet player and only sixteen years old at the time.
    A concert in the Roomburgh Theatre in October 1998 was live recorded. For this concert, Ruud Stuurman wanted a blues song. He had one that he wrote in 1980, which had no name. Ten days before the concert he played it for the band; ten days later the band played it at the concert as Route 47.
    As the booklet says: \u201cWithout any doubt there will be a real Route 47, but this one is an imaginary way to the blues\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n

    As a result of a performance at the \u201cJaarbeurs\u201d, Utrecht, Colomba Publishers, Oegstgeest, asked The Antonio Brass to make a Christmas CD. In cooperation with Colomba and A&B Sounds, \u201cChristmas Album\u201d was released. Ruud Stuurman aimed not to create just another Christmas album but to add something new to the existing repertoire, and the Brass agreed with him. This led to the re-arrangement of existing items and composition of new ones. The album is noted for its variety, starting with \u201cTwinkle Star\u201d by Ruud Stuurman and including well-known pieces like \u201cJingle Bells\u201d and \u201cO, Christmas Tree\u201d, re-arranged into swinging music. It also features original songs like \u201cIt\u2019s Christmas Time\u201d by Ruud Ebbens and \u201cAccording To Your Word\u201d, showcasing the composing talents of Paul Stuurman at only 17 years old. The inclusion of \u201cThe Adoration Of The Magi\u201d, taken from the movie \u201cBen Hur\u201d, adds a unique touch to the album, embodying the spirit of Christmas. Despite the tight schedule for recording and preparation, the experience was unforgettable for all the musicians involved.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n

    In the accompanying booklet Ruud Stuurman says:
    \u201cThe idea behind this album is that it was never meant to be an album. The tracks were live recorded on several locations, only for our own use. But now that our bass-player Hein Heemskerk and our drummer Kees van Hees have left the band, we thought it would be nice to release this album\u201d.<\/p>\n

    There were only six tracks recorded at the Imperium Theatre in Leyden (tracks 5 \u2013 10), too little for an album. So tracks 1 to 4 were added from earlier recordings at the Roomburgh Theatre.<\/p>\n

    Tracks 1 and 3 feature Ruud Stuurman: trumpet; Ruud Ebbens: guitar; Marc van Heugten: bass and Tim Schouten: drums.<\/p>\n

    Track 2 feature Ruud Stuurman: vocals and Ruud Ebbens: guitar.<\/p>\n

    Tracks 4 to 10 feature Ruud Stuurman: trumpet, vocals; Paul Stuurman: trumpet; Ruud Ebbens: rhythm guitar; Hans van der Grijp: lead guitar; Hein Heemskerk: bass and Kees van Hees: drums.<\/p>\n

    This album is a journey through time.
    All numbers are live-recordings. The first was recorded October 23, 1991 in the Roomburgh Theatre, Leyden, the numbers 2 and 3 date back to March 29, 1992, and were recorded in Valkenburg ZH. At the time Ruud Stuurman played with Ruud Ebbens, guitar, Marc van Heugten, bass, and Tim Schouten, drums and vocals, complemented by Hans van der Grijp, keyboard, in track 2.
    When Ruud Ebbens left for England while another performance was still in the offing, Kees Buurman, an old school-friend of Ruud Stuurman\u2019s, was prepared to take over Ruud Ebbens\u2019 guitar-part on his keyboard. So Ruud Stuurman, trumpet and vocals, Kees Buurman, keyboard, Marc van Heugten, bass, and Tim Schouten, drums and vocals, played November 21, 1992, at Staalwijk, Leyden, a crowded, smoky and noisy room, as can be heard in tracks 4 to 8.
    Ruud Stuurman had played with Kees Buurman before. The very first time was July 1970 in France, which was unfortunately not recorded. But in 1981 they met again and also in 1986, on January 18, or rather January 19, for the performance was the last part of a programme lasting the whole evening and did not start till 0.30 a.m. Tracks 9 and 10 on this album are taken from this performance, featuring not only Ruud Stuurman, trumpet, and Kees Buurman, keyboard and piano, but also Louis van der Goes, trumpet, and Fred Koene, drums. In \u201cChamps Elys\u00e9es\u201d we also hear Jean-Pierre Schutz, lead vocals, another old school and study friend of Ruud Stuurman\u2019s, who unfortunately passed away far too young, at the age of 41.
    So this album may rightly be called a journey through time!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n

    This is the fifth album by a group that more and more people get to know as a result of many concerts, like those at the Jaarbeurs, in Utrecht, for more than 4000 people, at the \u201cA Swingin\u2019 Affair\u201d-festival at Naaldwijk, and at the Beurs van Berlage, in Amsterdam, for an international audience with people from all over Europe, but also from Japan, Canada and the USA.
    The title-song of this album is the very sensitive and beautiful Spanish song \u201cTe Quiero, Mi Coraz\u00f3n\u201d by Ruud Stuurman, but \u201cThe Girl From Ipanema\u201d is also played with great Latin feeling. Another obvious feature of the album is the Beatles song \u201cYour Mother Should Know\u201d, in which Paul Stuurman takes over the lead-trumpet very well. Guitar players Ruud Ebbens and Hans van der Grijp are still going strong in the album, and the new musicians of the Brass, Guus Kras on bass and Klaas de Koning on drums and percussion, are doing very well. Jack Warmerdam, who already features in \u201cChristmas Album\u201d, seems to enjoy taking care of the trombone-part and some percussion.<\/p>\n

    The music played by The Antonio Brass is a mixture of jazz, blues and Tijuana music and every time the audience seems to like it\u2026.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n
